Weekly meanderings (2/05/10)…

Every once in a while, instead of a “clicki, vidi, linki” post, I like to review some things of interest  (to me) that happened throughout the course of the past week.

As you may already know, this week marked 7 years of marriage for Em and Me.  To celebrate we left Sunday afternoon and took a whirlwind trip up to Myrtle Beach, stayed at a nice hotel, went horseback riding on the beach, and visited a couple of our Marines at Camp Lejeune all before making it back in time for Wednesday night ministry.  Here are my observations from the trip:

  • It seems that many of our trips are whirlwind trips
  • Driving for countless miles with my beautiful bride in the seat next to me is one of my favorite things to do!  (Turns out the feeling is mutual)
  • Myrtle Beach is almost a ghost town in February.
  • There seem to be a superfluous number of pancake houses in Myrtle Beach.
  • Pancake houses make some incredibly awesome pancakes!!
  • South Carolina gets cold in February…it’s like the climate changes or something.
  • Hotels with more than 13 or more floors don’t admit to having a 13th floor.
  • Our room was on the 14th floor.
  • Therefore we were, in reality, 13 floors up (12 if you don’t count the lobby)
  • Horseback riding on the beach on your anniversary is awesome!
  • Dropping your camera on the ride and not knowing it until you get back…not so awesome.
  • After riding a horse for an hour and a half certain parts of you body tend to be very sore and/or bruised.
  • “Free gifts” from a hotel ares seldom free…can anyone say time-share promo?
  • The best way to turn down a time share is to turn down the “free gift”
  • Smoke alarms chirping at 4:00am because of a low battery are very annoying.
  • “Ultimate California Pizza” = pretty good pizza.  (Palace Pizza of Lakeland still wins though)
  • I wouldn’t want to live on a Marine base.
  • I am extremely proud of the two guys from our church that are currently living on a Marine base.
  • Ty Pennington

When you have a beard and “Ty Pennington” hair (somebody else said it, not me), you stick out at a Marine base.

  • I like our new camera.
  • Charleston, S.C. has recovered well since Sherman’s troops burned it during the Civil War.
  • Getting home from a 9 hour drive 20 minutes before Wednesday night ministries start is not something I’d like to do every week.

So there you have it…everything you never wanted to know about this weeks anniversary excursion to South Carolina.
