I did not listen to the speech that President Obama made in Oslo but through news articles and radio blurbs I know enough that I liked a few things that he said.
The President said some very good things…things that unfortunately don’t line up with a lot of his left-wing base’s ideology. Here are a few:
“I face the world as it is, and cannot stand idle in the face of threats to the American people, for make no mistake: Evil does exist in the world.”
I love this line because it sums up the presidents primary objective, the security and well-being of the American people. He is not the President of the world, he is the President of the USA. This is what human government is all about, the responsibility to protect your citizens through whatever means necessary.
Another line:
“To say that force is sometimes necessary is not a call to cynicism, it is a recognition of history.”
Not only that, but to say that force is sometimes necessary is a recognition of human depravity. I often feel that the secular idealists of today forget the reality of history and humanity while the religious idealists also forgets mans fallen state. That God granted nations the authority to use that force to protect from enemies and exercise justice among its own citizenry should be a part of the Christian world-view.
So, kudo’s to the President, especially for those comments. And who knows, maybe He’ll actually earn the award in the years ahead…a fact that he also alluded to in his speech.
