Over at his blog, Dr. Al Mohler has been doing a series entitled “What’s Really at Stake in the Gay Marriage Debate?” Dr. Mohler is probably the best source to go to when seeking to understand the culture from a biblical perspective. This is know small matter for groups, such as some within the emerging movement as one example, are re-defining biblical authority to match their embrace of culture. Unfortunately this has devastating effects as Dr. Mohler makes clear when he says this concerning the Gay Marriage debate:
Believers committed to biblical authority will find no way to avoid this controversy, and no ground for accepting the “fairness” argument. If the Bible is the revealed Word of God, then we know that homosexuality is a sin of great spiritual consequence. Those who reject the authority of the Bible will, in the end, likely come to accept some argument for the normalization of homosexuality and homosexual relationships.
In at least one “Christian” blog that I frequent the door is fast opening for that last sentence. The Bible must shape our view of culture…not the other way around.
In the book reviewed in the previous points, his argument for the acceptance of homosexuality runs like this: “sexuality is very complex, and I know homosexuals who are nice people and who really want to be part of the church.”
What the Bible says about the subject has nothing to do with it.
